VISA REQUIREMENTS

To fully take advantage of studying in Australia, you must first check that you meet the entry requirements. Such requirements include a decent academic record, some English language requirements, and a health insurance plan while you stay. In addition, the GTE requires you to prove that you are in Australia with a genuine intention to study or to accompany a student who is studying in either the role of parent, spouse, or child. Before granting admittance, the Department of Home Affairs will assess the following:

  • The circumstances in your home country
  • The potential circumstances for you in Australia
  • The value of your chosen course for your future
  • Your immigration history

It is relatively common that the GTE will call you in for an interview to determine whether or not you meet their requirements to study in Australia. However, some students will only need to complete and return the visa application form.

DOCUMENTS

The required student visa will depend on the nature of the course that you intend to take.Typically, you will need the following:
  • A current valid passport
  • A printout of your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate.
  • Proof that you have adequate funds to pay your tuition fee and living expenses.
  • Completed Australian student visa application form (157A)
  • Proof of a clean criminal record
  • Passport-sized photograph
  • Your travel itinerary

Education & Living Costs

Health Supports

If you find yourself in an emergency situation in Australia, the number you need to call is 000. This numberis free of charge and will connect you to the police, the fire brigade, or the ambulance service. With general health issues, you can simply make an appointment with your local doctor. The costs of visiting such a doctor will generally be covered by your OCHC. Occasionally, if your local doctor can’t treat you, they will refer you to a specialist. In some cases, the treatment you receive from the specialist will not be covered. When it comes to dental treatments, you don’t need a referral from your doctor.You can make the appointment yourself. The OCHC plan will not cover any dentistry.
